Installing pool patios is very similar to installing standard patios, with just two key differences: first, the subbase for a pool patio is poured concrete rather than compacted gravel; and second, the pavers are installed with a specific pitch to ensure proper drainage away from the pool.

Coping is the term used to identify the material used to cap the pool edge or shell wall. Besides simply being necessary, the coping provides an opportunity for a decorative accent, which can greatly enhance the appearance of the pool, steps, or walls.

Pool Patio Pitch

Just like any patio, the surface must be pitched away from the home — but with a pool patio, it also needs to slope away from the pool itself. This ensures proper drainage and keeps dirt, leaves, and debris from washing into your pool during a heavy rainstorm, helping to keep your water cleaner and maintenance easier.

Subbase Preparation

The base preparation is the most crucial part of any pool project. After excavating and removing the existing pool patio, we install a layer of crushed concrete as the base material. This base is then compacted thoroughly using a plate compactor to ensure a stable and solid foundation. Once properly compacted, we level the area with either sand or a concrete dry pack, creating a smooth and even surface ready for the next stages of construction.

Concrete Overlay

When installing a paver overlay, we utilize the existing concrete as the sub-base for the pavers.
We begin by spreading a layer of sand over the concrete to level out any uneven areas and establish the proper pitch. This ensures water drains away effectively. Next, we carefully lay the pavers, following the desired patterns and designs while maintaining the correct slope for drainage. The result is a beautiful, durable surface with a professional finish.

Coping is the finished edge around your pool, creating a seamless transition between the pool and the patio. It not only enhances the appearance of your pool but also provides a clean, polished finish.
